Prepositions: A

Let's keep working on our Italian lessons. Ready to start working with some prepositions.

If you know how to use prepositions it will be way easier for you to make more complex phrases in Italian.

Let's start with the Prepositionn "A":

1.- As a preposition of movement: to go somewhere:

Italian
English
vado a casaI go home

With the names of the cities:
vado a Roma, MilanoI go to Rome, Milan

2.- Of time:
mangio sempre a quest'oraI always at this hour
alle nove, alle dieciat nine, at ten

3.- of state: with some frequent names as: casa (home), scuola (school), università (university), ospedale (hospital), porto (port), lezione (lesson), bar (bar) mare (sea), stazione (station), stadio (stadium).

sono a casaI am home
rimango a casaI stay home

4.- To compliment a structure:
regalare a qualcunoGive a present to someone
dare a qualcunoGive to someone

5.- To indicate an object that works a certain way:

una stufa a gasA gas tove
una barca a velaA sailing boat

6.- To indicate a flavour or a condiment:

gelato al limoneA lemon ice cream
pasta al ragúpasta with ragú

ATTENZIONE:
andare a piediGo walking
andare a cavalloGo on a horse
parlare a voce alta, bassaTalk in high/low voice
